What kinds of video files can I upload?

Currently, Motionbox accepts videos in the following formats: .avi, .mov, .dv, .mpg, .mp4, .wmv, .asf, and .qt.

Motionbox also accepts a variety of cell phone video (.3GP), although due to the wide range of cell phones on the market, we cannot guarantee support for all models. If you are having trouble uploading a video, please let us know and we will try our best to help you!

How do I transfer video files from my camcorder or phone to my computer?

We’ve put together a handy tutorial on the basics of uploading video; it demonstrates the most common ways of getting your video onto the Web. However, each device is different, and we recommend that you check out the instructions that came with your camcorder, camera or phone, as well.

How do I add videos from my computer to Motionbox?

It’s easy. From the Motionbox upload page, simply click on the browse button. Now it’s as easy as attaching a file to an email. Add a title, description, and tags to your video, and then click the upload button. Check out our uploading tutorial for more information. You can also e-mail smaller video files straight to your Mobile folder. Just attach your video to an e-mail and send it to your unique Motionbox e-mail address (you can find that on your settings page). Just make sure your video file size is within the sending limits set by your e-mail provider!

Can I send videos from my phone to Motionbox?

Yes. Each Motionbox member has a unique “videophone” email address that you can personalize. You can find yours on your settings page. Use your videophone email address to send videos directly from your cell phone to your Motionbox account. As mentioned above, you can use this videophone e-mail address to directly e-mail your videos to your Mobile folder as well.

I tried to post a video to Motionbox from my cell phone and it didn’t work! What happened?

Some wireless providers automatically send photos and videos to their own web sites. Try sending the video to your own email address. If you have to follow a link to your provider’s web site to view the video, you’ve identified the problem. Call your service provider to ask if there is another option for sending the multimedia files directly to an email address. If you think you’re having a different problem, please let us know, and we will do our best to resolve the issue.

Is there a limit to the size of the videos I can upload?

There’s an upload limit of 100MB per file and a total storage limit of 300 MB for Basic members. If you would like to upload, store, and share larger videos (and more of them!), you should upgrade to Motionbox Premium! Learn more about Premium membership

It’s taking a long time to encode my video. What’s up with that?

Video files are big. Especially if they are long. When we encode your video, we’re optimizing it to play quickly at the highest quality on the Web. This might take a few minutes, so go grab a snack. All of this is a one-time process for each video, so it’s worth the wait.
