What’s a Mixer?

The mixer allows you to make new videos from your existing videos. It’s a great way to create one long video out of a bunch of smaller videos. Think of it as a kind of highlight reel of all your good stuff.

You can add as many videos as you like to the mixer. Edit them down to the good parts, reorder them if you’d like, and save your mix as a new video … which you can then share with friends and family.

The mixer has three main components:

  1. The video list. The video list shows you the videos that are currently in your mixer. You can drag and drop the order of your videos, or remove videos from the mixer if you decide you don’t need ‘em.
  2. The preview screen. The preview screen lets you play your mix-in-progress before publishing it as a new video. Feel free to make changes if you don’t like what you see.
  3. The editing panel where you can trim the videos in your mix. All of the videos that you’ve put in the mixer will appear here as a series of thumbnail images. If you want to keep most of your video in the mix, you can adjust the start and end points of each video and save only what you want. If you just want to include a short segment simply click and drag to select the part of the video you’d like to include, and choose “trim to selection” from the menu.

I want to add more videos to a mix that I have already published. Can I do that?

Sure you can. Just copy your published mix and other videos to the mixer and edit away. You can then save this as a new video.

Can other people add my videos to their mixes?

You can allow other people to mix any or all of your public videos. To make this your default setting, go to your settings page. You can change the privacy and mixing settings of any video on the site at any time. However, once someone else has added your video to a mix, you can’t take it back.

I added one video to my mixer and now it says there are five in there. What happened?

When you add a video to your mixer that is actually a mix of other videos, the mixer breaks them all out into their separate videos so that you have access to the original videos for editing.

I want to add other peoples’ videos to my mix. Can I?

If a user has chosen to allow others to mix his or her public videos, you’ll be able to add those to your mix. If you see the Mixer button on a video, you can mix it!

How do I edit my videos?

There are two ways to edit your videos. When you first come to your mixer, the selection handles will be situated at the beginning and end of each of your videos. You can drag them individually to new points in the video to edit the start and end times. As you drag the handles, you’ll notice that the footage falling outside of the selected area will gray out. The grayed-out areas of your video have been cropped out of your mix.

You can also edit by making a selection within the video. Drag your mouse to make a selection, and you will be prompted to “trim to selection” or cancel. If you select “trim to selection,” the non-selected area will be grayed-out and will not appear in your mix. If you select “cancel,” the clip handles will snap back to their previous locations.

I want to reorder the videos in my mix. How do I do that?

Once you’re happy with your mix and want to publish it as a new video, click the "make mix" button. You’ll be prompted to give it a title, description, tags and permission settings. Your newly published video will be added to your video list, and you can do anything to it that you can do with any other video (share it, deep tag it, etc.).

I’m not happy with my mix, but I haven’t saved it yet. How do I start over?

You have several options, depending on what you really want to do:

  1. You can remove all of your videos from the mixer and pretend like you never even attempted to create a new video.
  2. You can click the “undo edits” button which will reset all of the start and end selection handles to their original positions.
  3. You can click the “clear all changes” button, which will revert your mix-in-progress either to its original state (if you never saved a draft of your progress), or to its state after you clicked the “save for later” button.

Do I have to finish my mix now, or can I leave it there for a few hours and come back to it?

If you’d like to save your progress but don’t want to publish your mix as a new video, just click the “save draft” button. It will save any changes you’ve made to your mix-in-progress without publishing it.
